Captain John Curry, The man behind Stem to Stern.
John spent 8 years in the United States Coast Guard as Training Petty Officer on board the USCG Cutter Hamilton. He was responsible for ensuring that all the crew on board were properly trained in the field of boat operations and maintenance of the Cutter and it’s 2 small boats.
After the Hamilton, Boatswain Mate Curry moved to Search and Rescue Station San Francisco. Here, he qualified as Coxswain of the station’s 4 rescue boats. In his time there, he spent over 800 hours underway on rescue cases and training other personnel to be Crewmen and Coxswains.
Using the skills and time acquired from the Coast Guard, John had bigger dreams. He went to get his U.S. Merchant Marine Master’s License of a power vessel of 100 gross tons. With that license he continued training with Club Nautique in Alameda on the club’s 3 powerboats ranging from a 34’ single screw to a 39’ twin screw. He taught classes of 4 students the basics and advanced skills of the various sized powerboats.
Seeing the need for personalized private service for new boaters, or boaters with new boats, John started the company Stem to Stern. He has brought a level of service to customers in the San Francisco Bay Area that did not exist in any other facility. Stem to Stern has since grown from a small cleaning and training company to a full service yacht management and consulting service provider.
